Situated in the heart of historic Enfield Town, the Dugdale Centre is an arts venue that hosts a wide variety of performances from theatre and music to comedy. It is also fast becoming one of the most important places for poetry in North London. As well as being the home of Enfield Poets, who have monthly events with guest poets and open mic slots, the Dugdale Centre’s theatre space also stages readings by celebrated figures such as Carol Ann Duffy and Andrew Motion.
More recently, it has become a centre of excellence for creative writing, providing a place for poetry workshops and for regular meetings of the local Poetry Society stanza group. With its coffee lounge, ice-cream parlour, museum and local history library, it provides the kind of comfortable and culturally rich environment in which poetry can thrive.
